A Michigan Picture Post

Published by under Club Wolverine owns us,Eye Candy

So, an ex-OSU swimmer that my brother and I know came up to us at the meet yesterday. Guess what he said to me?

“So you’re here for Michigan, huh?”

Guess people just know who I rep for. Word is out on the streets. However, in this weekend’s case, I was really there to see Grevers, but that’s a minor detail…

Anyway, in honor of Club Wolverine owning me, it is time for another picture post featuring shots of AVK, Grant Burtch, Matt Patton, and Chris DeJong (AKA The Asian)

Chris DeJong resurfaces as Michigan's Team Manager
Guess who? That’s right, Mr. DeJong! (Sorry, he did no GQ poses)

Oops, Wrong Vanderkaay Brother

Alex, not Peter, is the Vanderkaay on the Michigan roster this year

People just can’t get things right, can they? First we pointed out the DeJong brother goof, and now we have a Vanderkaay brother one, brought to us by the Cal Bears athletic department. Seems they can’t tell the difference between AVK and PVK. Whatever happened to fact checking before publishing press releases?

So it must be said: Can Alex Vanderkaay please get some respect?

Geez.

Lady Speedo anyone?

Some fans think that Pete's Speedo was designed for women. Do you agree?

So, anyone who has emailed me (and received a response) knows that I have a voicemail-only phone number which appears in my email signature. It doesn’t get much action, but it did shortly after the US Open. Seems a “fan” had some interesting comments about the Speedo suit that our favorite Vanderkaay was wearing on the first night of the meet. Take a listen and try not to laugh too much. Or question for you is: “Do you agree?”

US Open promotion begins!

Flyer to promote the upcoming 2006 US Open

Wandering around the internet can be productive sometimes, right? Well, I found the above flyer, promoting the upcoming US Open, on Purdue’s Recreation Center website. They earn major keepin’ it real points for using a pic of a “Vanderkaay named Peter” too.

20 Question Tuesday: Cullen Jones

Cullen Jones wins the 50 Free at the 2006 ConocoPhillips Summer NationalsJust one week after the posting of one of the best 20 Question Tuesdays I’ve had the privilege of reading (Erik Vendt), USA Swimming follows it up with yet another great one: Cullen Jones. The more I read about Cullen, the more impressed I get. He’s got a great head on his shoulders and is a class act. Reminds me of another swimmer I am quite fond of. Another great read that will once again keep me looking forward to next Tuesday!

What does everyone else think of Cullen’s feature?

Cullen Jones established himself as one of the top sprinters in the world, winning the 50m free and helping set the world record in the 400m free relay at the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships. In this week’s 20 Question Tuesday, he lets our readers know a little bit more about his life outside of the pool, as well as in it.

1 What’s it like being a pro athlete now?
Cullen: Honestly, I didn’t think there was a future in swimming except I was having fun with it. Swimming has always been something fun to me; not something that came “naturally” to me, because I had to work at it quite a bit. But now I am doing something I love, and I am getting paid for it.

2 What’s it like being paid?
Cullen: I had some reporters ask me what it’s like to be paid now, how much different is it, is it a job. And my answer is swimming is something I love, and it is fun. The day that stops, that’s the day I stop swimming. I didn’t get to this point for the money. I love being nervous up on the blocks, and being hungry.
