Allow me to make an attempt at answering that question: server issues + hackings + upgrades + mysql downgrades = server downtime
I know all the SwimStars.org sites have been down for the past 24 and some odd hours. No one is more annoyed and frustrated than me as I am the one paying that hefty pricetag for a dedicated server. I have been in touch with support on a bi-hourly basis for the past day, even when I should be sleeping. (You all know how important sleep is to me).
So here’s to hoping the server is back online soon, before I pull my weave out…
EDIT: I am switching webhosting companies as we speak. Current co. has a 99% uptime guarantee and are not standing by it and I can’t take their shit anymore.
Hey, did everyone see the wonderful new 20 Question Tuesday feature with Erik? Not only was I missing 20 Question Tuesday every week, but it was even sweeter to see that they reached out to Erik to resume the weekly feature.
Erik Vendt changed after the 2004 Olympic Games. He left swimming and went on a long vacation where he found out a lot about the world and a lot about himself. Vendt tells special correspondent Bob Schaller what he’s learned about himself, and just how he ended up back in the pool again in this week’s 20 Question Tuesday.
1. What is 9-11 like for you?
Erik: It has a weird personal side to it, because it’s my sister’s birthday. Also, it’s very personal because I have really good friends who are in the service, and I think about them on a day like today. I get emotional, but for a different reason than people think. My three good friends are serving. That’s what I am thinking about.
2. Being a New Englander, is the wound still fresh for you?
Erik: Five years down the line…that’s interesting. The freshness and horror of the moment was stuck in my mind for a while. Fortunately or unfortunately, it’s starting to go away a little with time, though I won’t forget what happened. But like I said, I have friends fighting in this war, so 9-11 does mean something extra.
Read more at USA Swimming and keep an eye out for the new SwimStars.org network site dedicated to Erik; opening this fall!
Seriously. Let’s talk about Klete’s non-stop yawning before races. I don’t know about y’all, but a session is not complete until I see him bust out 4 or 5 of those suckas! Keepin’ it real.
I was going through pictures and came across this one and remembered how funny it was. Well, it was funny to me anyway. It was in the AM hours. What do y’all want from me?!
In light of the recent and unexpected passing of Steve Irwin, we’d like to extend our condolences to his family and hope that those who view our video think of the “impression” as a tribute to his lasting mark on pop culture and not a disrespectful and poorly timed jab at his persona. This video was posted a couple of days before his death. We truly loved the “Crocodile Hunter” and will continue to do so.
In light of recent events — the Swim Aids know what’s going on — I thought I needed to make a post for the “troops”. Morale is at an all-time high, so we are ready to go! Also included are some inspirational tunes. That’s how we roll.
