Ok, be honest. Who else is overflowing with excitement?! Remember when we thought the Olympic Trials were soooo far off? Remember?
I’ve been OD’ing on NBC’s Olympic Trials coverage this weekend. I can honestly say I feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve!
BTW, if you’re bored, why not check out the official websites of Kate Ziegler and Dara Torres. I designed them both recently and I’m all about the shameless plug action.

There won’t be any threats or lawsuits coming from NIKE with regards to their signed swimmers testing the waters with the Speedo LZR. Maybe, just maybe, they think it’s bad for business? Who knows.
But what we do know is that NIKE hasn’t created a suit in line with TYR’s Tracer Rise or Speedo’s LZR Racer and it looks like they are openly acknowledging that fact. I will say that I was feelin’ their suits with the white band from a purely visual standpoint. That black/white combo is hot to me, just ask any of the Swim Aids!
An Associated Press piece announced that the 7 signed athletes will be allowed to compete with the Speedo suit at the upcoming Olympic Trials in 2 weeks. NIKE’s spokesman Derek Kent said the movie gives the swimmers the chance to “experiment with other products, satisfy their curiosity and compete without distractions”.
We’d been hearing that some of Team Nike has already been rockin’ the Speedo, with logo blacked out, so this doesn’t really come as that much of a surprise. (Forgot where I read that, though)
I’m just glad there will be no additional drama for Trials. These athletes don’t need to be worrying about things like that when there’s so much on the line. Kudos to Nike for doing the right thing.

This was sent to me by the show’s publicity team, so I feel it only right to share. US Swimming legend Janet Evans is participating. Why should you care? Well, it’s not every day we see one of our beloved gold medalists appearing weekly on network TV, now is it?

Also on the Today Show website was the following hilaaaaarious video asking Olympic Hopefules/Athletes who their Olympic and celebrity crushes were. Pay special attention to Ryan’s response and facial expressions, and to Kaitlin, in general. Lochteno were our original fave “swim couple”. Come to think of it, we always tend to like Kaitlin’s boyfriends; she has great taste. And I’d also like to say that it will be a travesty if KS doesn’t get a gig in front of the camera when she retires from swimming. You can’t buy charisma like hers!
Carrie found these for us. Everyone give her a round of applause!

I don’t know if this story actually aired on the Today Show or not, but it’s a featured headline right now and that’s great too!
The Today Show website put the spotlight on Cullen’s efforts to raise swimming awareness in the black community.
If you’re a long time reader of the Swim Aids, then you know I make my fair share of stereotypical jokes about black people swimming. I would like to say, again, that I can swim; I just don’t, unless I have to. Nawmean? However, I will continue to make jokes. It’s just too irresistable; the joke pool is so full!
The feature also calls attention to Cullen and Maritza Correia’s joint documentary (glad those two are back on, being one of our fave swim couples and all) about the trails black swimmers blaze on their way to the top of the sport.
All in all, nice read. Don’t take my word for it, though. Read for yourself.
My fellow Swim Aids informed me last week that Kaitlin Sandeno and Brendan Hansen were supposed to appear on the Today Show tomorrow (err, today), Tuesday’s show. No confirmation of that just yet, but that’s what led me to the Today Show website in the first place, where I was greeted with the CJ feature.
See, putzing around on the internet actually can be productive!
If Miss Kaitlin and B-Han really are on the show, video will be forthcoming.

So, I’m sure you’ve all seen the news that Kosuke Kitajima has broken Brendan’s 200 Breast World Record. And if not, you’re welcome.
Kitajima’s been nipping at B-Han’s heels in the role of second fiddle for the past couple of years. It’s as if the tide turned immediately following the Athens Games, because he hasn’t beat Brendan since then, has he?
With US Trials coming up in a matter of weeks, I can’t wait to see what Mr. Hansen does. He tapers like a mofo, so I feel like we’re going to see something special. I, for one, cannot wait!
I used this title for a reason. Being the goofy person that I am, when I first heard the news, a scene from the Cosby Show popped into my head. Wait for it… The clip features Sandman Simms and Heathcliff Huxtable in a tap dance-off. I know, I’m aging myself again. I can’t help it!
CHALLENGE!
Too bad they don’t make quality TV shows like this anymore.
