So, an ex-OSU swimmer that my brother and I know came up to us at the meet yesterday. Guess what he said to me?
“So you’re here for Michigan, huh?”
Guess people just know who I rep for. Word is out on the streets. However, in this weekend’s case, I was really there to see Grevers, but that’s a minor detail…
Anyway, in honor of Club Wolverine owning me, it is time for another picture post featuring shots of AVK, Grant Burtch, Matt Patton, and Chris DeJong (AKA The Asian)

Alex’s 200 Fly

Mattie P. before his 200 Back race

Grant’s 200 Breast

Guess who? That’s right, Mr. DeJong! (Sorry, he did no GQ poses)

I never thought I’d see the day where cheerleaders and mascots show up on the pool deck for a meet, but that day has come. Mark January 27, 2007 in your calendars, y’all!
Say what you will about The Ohio State University (and I usually do, but that’s not the point of this post), but they have school spirit unlike anything I’ve seen! A small squad of cheerleaders, plus the ever-popular school mascot, Brutus the Buckeye, were on hand today for the 2nd half of the OSU/Northwestern/Michigan double dual meet.
I know, I know. I wouldn’t believe that either. But that’s why I am always equipped with cameras at swimming meets. Check out my proof:

Wow…

Since Michigan is in my hometown to take on OSU and Northwestern this weekend, I thought it was time for a Michigan post. Especially since Club Wolverine really does own us. I mean, have you seen how many CWers are covered at Swim Stars?. It’s getting out of control.
Anyway, I would just like to say that the entire University of Michigan swimming program deserves better than these ghetto programs that get printed up and handed out at their meets:
It’s really embarassing. Especially when other Big Ten programs create and distribute programs that look like this:
I know what you’re thinking. “Who cares?” Am I right? Well I care! So put that in your pipe and smoke it!
This program won the National Team Title in August at the USA Swimming Summer Nationals! Don’t they deserve better? The little things start to add up! Because it’s not like UM has a dope scoreboard with instant replay going for them…or their own fleet of buses…or an amazing facility with seating on both sides of the pool…or any of the Swim Aids living in their town…
*cough*
Can I get an ‘AMEN’?

Everyone remember the “pimp hat” that Ryan was rockin’ last summer? If not, allow me to refresh your memories.
I anxiously await his next fashion statement. Maybe he’ll bring something ‘new’ soon. One can only hope, right?

I just stumbled upon this poster (Click to see full-size) and I absolutely LOVE it! Why is this the first time I’ve seen it? Clearly it isn’t new since Cullen isn’t in it. Man, Nike! You can’t even buy this poster on the Nike website. Push more stuff like this!
BTW, if you would like to buy it, you can get one here. It’s only $5 with free shipping!

So it was pointed out on MrPhelps.com that Mike just might have a teeny tiny identity crisis. Or maybe they were just separated at birth. Do you agree? y/n

Time for me to get on my soapbox again. I am usually quite quick to point out mistakes when it comes to athletes’ names. We have to, though. How on earth is the general public going to take the sport (and its athletes) seriously when the publications that cover the sport don’t get simple things like a swimmer’s name right?
So we all know that Davis Tarwater trains with Club Wolverine, right? It’s pretty much common knowledge; especially with certain newspapers who follow the happenings of the club on a regular basis. The Detroit Free Press has a great relationship with the club, coaches, and some of the team as well. So why is it that they published a story today where Davis was “David Tarwater”? Could be a typo or just a simple oversight, right? I’m not sure how it works at news publications, but I assume there are people on staff to proofread and edit stories before they are published. I even saw the article posted on another swim-related blog; typo intact.
I know that the people at the Detroit Free Press are aware that it is “Davis Tarwater” and not “David Tarwater”. However, a mistake like this is a disservice to the countless hours Davis spends in the pool as one of the brightest talents in the sport. He deserves proper recognition just like everyone else.
BTW, can I get a “T-DUB!!”?
