Keeping with our recent posting trend of swimmers making public appearances, below are some shots of Amanda Beard (another longtime Swim Aid favorite) hosting an Olympic Opening Ceremony Viewing Party in Las Vegas on Friday.
The party, hosted in Lagasse’s Stadium at The Palazzo featured a pretty cool Olympic-themed cake. More pictures below. Continue Reading »

I moseyed on over to the ESPN sub-site to cast my vote for all the swimmers nominated for ESPY Awards. (You should too.)
When I got to the “Best Female College Athlete” category, I was pleased to see Dana Vollmer nominated. What didn’t please me was that they used a picture of Lacey Nymeyer. ESPN FTL!
Note: We know we have some explaining to do re: our attendance at the Santa Clara Grand Prix. That is a post for another day!

Sure looks like it! But at least she didn’t have to cover herself with a tent…
One’s wedding day is so special and memorable. Well, it’s supposed to be. I wouldn’t know, because honestly, I’m on track to be that “old lady with the cats”.
Anyway, the lovely Natalie Coughlin married her longtime boyfriend, Ethan, on Saturday in NorCal. Leading up to the big day, she shared tidbits from her planning of the wedding on her Twitter account. So cute!
Pictures from her special day have made their way onto the internet. They came from Flynet Pictures, a notorious paparazzi agency. I don’t claim to know more about Natalie than anyone else, but I don’t think I’d be going out on a “limb” to say that I’m pretty sure she did not invite or hire Flynet as her wedding photography company. Just a WILD guess!
Anyway, no clue how she feels about the apparent invasion of privacy, because she’s off on her honeymoon. And I’m sure I’m not helping matters eithers, but isn’t that what non-serious bloggers do? If you’re curious about the location, scenery, and wedding itself, you should click right here.
What can I say, I’m just as nosy as the rest of you!
Congrats to the newlyweds!

If you’re part of the cool crowd that is tweeting on Twitter (good for you), then this post is for you!
Dara Torres just created her own Twitter account, so y’all should definitely follow her! She’s currently gracing the cover of More Magazine. And don’t forget her book, Age Is Just A Number, is coming out soon; April 7th to be exact. Find more info, including her book signing dates, on her official website < /shameless plug>
And since we’re talking Twitter, you should follow our Swim Stars account too! You’ll not only get the news items from SwimStars.org, but also all the good stuff from right here on Swim Aids. It’s called consolidation and we’re big fans.

We were in awe at the Olympic Trials watching Lia Neal race. And she was only 13. Holy cow!
In the media section, we had some wonderful people around us (from Do Tell Productions). They had been following/promoting her for a while, and let us know that we should keep an eye on Lia because she was going to do big things!
ESPN just published a wonderful Q&A with Lia that we recommend everyone check out. (LINK) I don’t know about y’all, but I was nowhere near that level-headed when I was in the 8th grade!
It’s going to be a pleasure to watch Lia grow up and make waves in the sport. We’re still impressed and will routinely give Miss Lia shout-outs here on the Swim Aids website.
P.S. We took some pictures of Lia, at Trials, that would have been perfect to use in this story. But again, kiwi has all of them and won’t mail them to me

Well, kind of. But we’re starving for material around here, so just deal, mmk?
The Big Ten Network aired the 2009 Women’s Big Ten Swimming & Diving Championships over the weekend. Naturally I tuned in, because it isn’t every day that swimming appears on TV. I’ll take what I can get, yo.
I only caught the last 15 minutes of the initial airing and immediately recognized a familiar voice. It belonged to Miss Kaitlin Sandeno! I’m glad she’s up in the booth using her knowledge, experience, and awesome personality to call and analyze races. It’s a breath of fresh air!
And yes, she did a great job. I hope she does more events, but only if she also gets some TV hosting gigs. This girl needs to be on TV, in front of a camera. We, the tv viewing public, are being cheated every day that Kaitlin isn’t on TV. Someone please stop the torture!
