Scandal For Suburban Columbus Swim Coach

Posted February 27, 2008 at 11:51 pm by Suz in Doing the right thing

This thing is alllllll over the news here in C-BUS.

The Upper Arlington High School Boys swimming coach has just been arrested and charged with rape of a 15 year old female student back in 1996 and 1997.

Police aren’t sure why the victim waited until now to come forward, but suspect there may be more victims. This isn’t exactly the kind of story I like reading with regards to those within the swimming community, but I do tend to write about swim-related goings-on in my area. Gotta take the good with the bad.

A little background on UA: Upper Arlington is located slighty northwest of Columbus and just minutes from my house. I cut through UA in order to get to McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion at Ohio State. It’s one of the more affluent area suburbs, and the girls high school team, coached by Dan Peterkoski just won the Div. 1 State Championship for the 4th straight year.

This might be my law and order obsession kicking in, but isn’t there a time limit on how long you have to report rape? Is that a sate-to-state kind of thing?

P.S. totally off topic but did you watch the L&O SVU marathon on USA last weekend?

    5. Suzon Feb 28, 2008 at 10:29 pm

I watch Law & Order every day. There is no need to watch marathons when you get a daily dose ;)

Yes, there is a statute of limitation on crimes. And you’re right that it varies from state to state. Ohio’s limit on rape is 20 years.

I guess something like this happened in North Dakota…and their rape limit is like 17 years or something and I guess a girl waited 17 years and a week late or something. How awful is that?? But yeah…can’t wait to hear more about this case!

Statute of limitations! Thats the fucking phrase I was looking for…

Question: is it creepy when your roommate tells you that because she watches so much Law and Order and CSI she could probably commit the perfect murder?

Answer: I don’t want to live with her anymore….

oh carrie. that must have been beyond awkward.

    10. Erikaon Feb 29, 2008 at 5:19 pm

Carrie, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve watched enought L&O and CSI to commit the perfect murder.

But I’m not trying to say your roomie isn’t crazy. She is.

Those shows are fiction, yet often inspired by true events.

My aunt (lawyer) constantly complains about how inaccurate all those shows are.

Anyone who thinks they can commit the perfect crime simply because they watch crime shows is a complete moron.

Carrie, it appears your roommate has more issues than I have time to list!

    12. Erikaon Feb 29, 2008 at 7:42 pm

Are you calling me a moron!?!? LOL

    13. Suzon Feb 29, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Do you think you’re a moron?

      :P

    14. Erikaon Feb 29, 2008 at 9:10 pm

      No ma’am I don’t.

Do you think, I think I’m a moron?! Hmmmmm?? hahaha

    15. Suzon Feb 29, 2008 at 9:22 pm

      Subconsciously, yes.

      haha, jk, jk!
