Getting Bumped; A Swimming Reality
I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but there seems to be a new trend regarding swimmers’ TV appearances.
Last month, Mike was a guest on The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno. He was scheduled for one day, but was bumped to the next day (and a much smaller timeslot) because of the horrific Sanjaya from American Idol.
This this week, Cullen Jones was to appear on the BET sports talk show Ballers, for a “A Day in the Life” piece. That segment was mysteriously absent from last night’s episode. Now it could be that there was a miscommunication between the network, USA Swimming, and Cullen. But it’s my guess that his feature was probably just “bumped”, like Mike’s was. We’ll see next week, when the next episode of Ballers airs.
Swimmers so rarely get spots on TV. It would be really nice if they aired as scheduled. The swim community has a hard enough time promoting itself to the public.
And here’s a note to TV networks/programs:
PLEASE STOP BUMPING SWIMMERS!
Thanks,
The Swim Aids
