Are we the Austin Staab Fan Club?
Somewhere along the line, the Swim Aids have turned into the Austin Staab Fan Club. But that’s ok. I will rep for anyone in my area who excels in swimming. Yea, I said it! Maybe that statement will encourage and start a trend around central Ohio. A girl can dream, can’t she?
Now back to the topic at hand, let’s review, shall we? At the 2007 Ohio High School State Championships, Austin tied Nate Dusing’s National High School Record in the 100y Fly and won his second consecutive 100y freestyle title. With the latter win, Austin became the first swimmer in Ohio to repeat as a state champ in the same event since 2001. He’s kind of a big deal, folks.
Recently, SNP (Suburban News Publications) named Austin its Swimming & Diving Winter Athlete of the Year for 2007. He also received this recognition in 2006.
Austin’s future coach at Stanford, Skip Kenney, had the following words of praise for Austin:
“[There's] no greater pure talent in the whole country”
Is that a bold statement or what?! Don’t be surprised if we send our “West Coast Correspondent” to check in on Mr. Staab next year!
