Black People Don’t Swim
Warning: Ignorance to follow
I watch Making the Band on MTV. That’s right. I admit it. What’s it to ya?! Tonight’s MTB4 episode had me rollin’!
Here’s a little background on me. I have always maintained that I do not swim. I can swim. I just don’t. I’ll leave it to the pros and just watch. I’m more of a hot tub girl; ya feel me?
The example I use is that if I’m on a boat, and it goes down, my black ass will swim. That’s about what it’d take. Black girls do not like getting their hair wet unless we have to. That’s just how it is. And don’t give me the swim cap crap. Not good enough protection for us sistas.
So tonight, Diddy gets the girls from Danity Kane and fellas from Day 26 on a yacht and the dialog from the guys was hilarious.
“Black folk need to just stay on land”
“Is the water gonna splash me?”
“I can’t swim…”
Other similar lines were aired during the segment that made me laugh. These quotes really are a common sentiment in the black community, though. To quote the infamous Karen Walker, “It’s funny because it’s true”.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! My roomie and I were watching this and I was dying laughing. She of course was clueless.
Oh, and also for the readers: Suz only gets in hot tubs with her clothes on.
The readers should know that your statement is not entirely accurate. I only get in, with my clothes on, when peer pressured by gays! God love ‘em.
Yes, the gays are so good at convincing you to do shit you’ll regret in the morning… The gays and alcohol…
And just because you get in with your clothes on, does not mean you get out with them on! OKAAAY!
I have learned the peer pressuring ways of alcohol. Esp. on Saturday night….
