Holy Crap, Kirsty!
From the fine folks at Speedo
On the first day of finals at the Missouri Grand Prix, with a blistering time of 2:06.39 in the women’s 200m back, Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe set the first World Record in the world’s fastest suit - the Speedo LZR RACER.
Less than a week after the suit’s debut, Coventry, wearing the suit for the first time, took down Krisztina Egerszegi’s 200m back global standard which had stood since 1991.
Just minutes after the new World Record, Katie Hoff went after the oldest American Record on the books, Janet Evans’ 1988 400m free.
In her LZR RACER Recordbreaker Bodyskin, Hoff went 4:02.20, shattering Evans’ record by 1.6 seconds and just missing Frenchwoman Laure Manadou’s World Record of 4:02.13.
Unrested, Hoff’s American Record came less than an hour after she won the women’s 100m free in a lifetime best time of 54.28.
Wearing the LZR RACER Legskin, Michael Phelps won the men’s 200m fly in 1:53.51, going four-tenths faster than his time in this event in Missouri last year. The time is Phelps’ second-fastest ever, only behind his World Record-setting swim at the 2007 FINA World Championships.
Now that’s some fast swimming!
